The Jonathan Winters

The Jonathan Winters

Those of a certain generation (including us at Loch Ross) may recall the ad-lib, sometimes astringent humor of the late comedian Jonathan Winters.  Just as the humorist often added tartness, so the Jonathan apple (Malus domestica 'Jonathan') has a sweet underlying taste punctuated with hints of acid similar to cherry.

In this "bleak midwinter" in January - with a polar vortex about to hit - it's hard to believe that this tree and its approximately 140 neighbors in the Loch Ross orchard will bloom full.  Most will bear fruit during the late summer and fall, a few even sooner.  From these wintering trees, let us all learn the lesson of faith:  that even when things seem hopelessly bleak, there is a real possibility of better things in the near future.
