Berry Bright

Here in the Magnolia State of Mississippi, we enjoy the seasonal changes of the namesake tree. Now in late summer, the beautiful flowers have passed; in their place are bright and waxy red seeds on the cones. Birds take them to create long-distance offspring in sometimes surprising places. We have tried - not yet successfully - to germinate baby magnolias from the seeds. With any luck, those efforts will take root and blossom this year.
