In Green Pastures
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. - Psalm 23
The sheep are lying down in their evening pasture. That means they have dined on the luscious green grass, now resting while their four-part ruminant digestive system processes the food. That they have both dined and are now ruminating in these verdant fields means they are content and feel secure. As Browning (the poet, not the rifle) would say, God’s in His heaven and all’s right with the world.
