Old Hickory

The seventh U.S. president, Andrew Jackson, earned the nickname Old Hickory for his stubborn persistence in the Battle of New Orleans. Based on this hickory tree at Loch Ross, we can appreciate the begrudging admiration of such a moniker. This tree is always the last to bloom in spring and the first to drop leaves in autumn. Even while leaning at a ridiculous angle - at a ridiculous height - the hickory continues to thrive despite all appearance!
