Smelt of Elderberries

Smelt of Elderberries

Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries — Monty Python

Elderberry bushes grow profusely around the farm. The early-summer elderflowers are small and white (not to be confused with edelweiss!), yielding by mid-summer to purple berries that are enjoyed by birds and wild animals alike. What those creatures smell like after consuming elderberries, we probably don’t want to know.
