Rossie is a diamondback water snake (Nerodia rhombifer), a nonvenomous but hungry creature that plunges from tree branches or the loch shore to capture fish. Rossie thrashes and splashes and otherwise draws attention whenever he (she?) goes on the hunt for a fish.
